ODEON CINEMAS AND TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX HOST NATIONWIDE ‘NEXT GENERATION’ EDUCATIONAL SCREENINGS OF HIDDEN FIGURES

To celebrate the release of Academy Award® and BAFTA® nominated HIDDEN FIGURES, Twentieth Century Fox and ODEON Cinemas joined forces on Thursday 9th February to inspire the next generation to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).

ODEON’s newly refurbished cinema on Tottenham Court Road in London hosted a live panel which was beamed live into 23 ODEON cinemas around the country to audiences of young people between the ages of 11 – 18 and their teachers, parents and guardians. The panel showcased prominent figures who have succeeded in STEM, offering insight and advice to the audience.

Hosted by broadcaster Jenni Falconer, the panel included Maggie Aderin-Pocock – Space scientist and science educator, Helen Keen - comedian, writer and science enthusiast, Carrie Anne Philbin, Director of Education at the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Christine Waata – EDF Energy, Daisy Lachat – Mars rover engineer, Airbus DS, and Alice Bunn – Director of Policy, UK Space Agency. The event enjoyed support from partners who all generously contributed to the day. IntoFilm recruited the audiences nationwide, EDF Energy partnered on the film and helped provide panellists, The British Interplanetary Society helped to organise the panel and ODEON generously provided the 24 cinemas. Google supported the event by donating Google Cardboards to the audience in support of their Google Expeditions Programme, who are currently touring the country bringing their immersive virtual reality learning into schools.

HIDDEN FIGURES is the incredible untold story of Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe)—brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.

Directed by Academy Award® and BAFTA Award® nominated Theodore Melfi (St. Vincent), HIDDEN FIGURES stars Academy Award® nominee Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, ‘Empire’), Academy Award® winner Octavia Spencer (The Help) and Janelle Monáe (Moonlight, Rio 2). The cast includes; Kirsten Dunst (Midnight Special, ‘Fargo’), Jim Parsons (Home, ‘The Big Bang Theory’), Academy Award® and BAFTA Award® nominee Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, ‘House of Cards’), Aldis Hodge (Straight Outta Compton), Glen Powell (Everybody Wants Some!!) and Academy Award® and Golden Globe® winner Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves, Man of Steel).

HIDDEN FIGURES released in cinemas nationwide on Friday 17th February, 2017
